Galveston, Texas |
| Galveston offers 32 miles of relaxing beaches, superb restaurants, top resort hotels, marvelous downtown shopping, numerous antique stores, incredible art galleries, fabulous entertainment and one of the largest and well-preserved concentrations of Victorian architecture in the country. It is a small romantic island tucked deep within the heart of south Texas possessing all the charm of a small southern town and just 40 minutes south of the fourth largest city in the United States. At 32 miles long and two and a half miles wide, most residents can't remember the last time they visited the mainland and, if circumstances permitted, they would never leave. The Island has seen its share of calamities, yet the worst natural disaster in U.S. history could not erase the tranquility of a Galveston sunset. From soft sandy beaches to famous 19th century architecture, the island is surrounded with incredible history and unique beauty. |
Schlitterbahn |
| Popular Texas waterpark Schlitterbahn has added a third location - Schlitterbahn Galveston Island. Like the other Schlitterbahn parks, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island features plenty of unique and innovative rides. However, unlike any other waterpark in the world, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island is 'convertible,' offering outdoor fun in the summer and indoor water rides during the winter. |
Moody Gardens |
| Visitors crossing the causeway to Galveston will surely see the pyramids rising on the western side of the island. Those pyramids are just part of magnificent Moody Gardens. With attractions that include several aquariums, an IMAX theatre and even a rainforest, Moody Gardens is a must see for Galveston visitors. |
Moody Mansion |
| The guided tour of the Moody Mansion includes a history of the Moody family in the context of late 19th and 20th century Galveston and Texas. The furnishings are all original to the family and to the house. Each room on the main floor is decorated in a different style. |
Seawolf Park |
| Walk the same decks that the brave crews did when they were taken into "Harm's way" during World War II. Seawolf Park features a 3-story pavilion, the USS CAVALLA (WWII Submarine); the USS STEWART (destroyer escort - one of only 3 in the world); a Fishing Pier; and a Playground. The park was built on an immigration station site and offers a three-story pavilion with a view of Galveston harbor, picnic sites, a playground area and a lighted fishing pier. Seawolf Park is available for company picnics, school field trips, and private parties. |
The Strand Historical District |
| The downtown area offers an intriguing selection of shops, restaurants, galleries, and museums within a perfect radius for self-guided tours. Many of the district's beautiful historic buildings have survived the 1900 Storm. Points of interest include the Peanut Butter Warehouse at 102 20th Street and the Railroad museum at 25th street. For a taste of Galveston, visit the great restaurants along The Strand or on the waterfront. You'll find everything from Greek and Mexican to Italian and, of course, fresh Gulf Coast seafood. |
Lone Star Flight Museum |
| The museum is home to one of the premier flying collections of historic aircraft in the world. Stroll back in time to the 1940's as you tour our 1000,000 square foot facility filled with aircraft that defended freedom across the globe. |
